ParCA
Partnership for Canada-Caribbean Community Climate Change Adaptation

This five-year International Research Initiative on Adaptation to Climate Change (IRIACC) project (2011-2016) investigates how small and medium-sized coastal communities in the Caribbean (Jamaica & Tobago) and Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island) will adapt to the impact of rising sea levels and other climatic changes. ParCA involves an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Waterloo, the University of Prince Edward Island, Saint Mary’s University, and the University of the West Indies. This project will develop innovative adaptation strategies relative to existing and anticipated future exposure-sensitivities, create opportunities for collaborative learning with stakeholders from Atlantic Canadian and Caribbean cases facing common environmental stresses (sea level rise, coastal erosion, storm events), and assess the opportunities and limitations on climate change adaptation governance.
